Do You Still Need a Weight Loss Coach if You’re on Ozempic or Mounjaro?
August 30, 2025
By Claire JonesThis is a question I get asked a lot, and the answer is a firm yes, if your goal is long-term, healthy sustainable weight loss.
I’m Claire Jones, a weight loss coach in the UK, and many of my clients are either using, have used, or are considering GLP-1 medications like Ozempic, Wegovy, or Mounjaro (prescribed by approved providers). These can be incredibly helpful tools, but they are not the full solution.
Here’s why.
Coaching isn’t just about food and exercise
It’s about everything underneath it.
If you’re expecting your coach to just give you a better meal plan or a new workout routine, you’re missing the part that actually moves the needle.
Because most people already know what they “should” be eating. They’ve tracked macros, followed plans, downloaded apps, and repeated the same cycle enough times to memorise it.
What they struggle with is:
- Following through when life gets chaotic
- Knowing how to eat without guilt after a “bad” day
- Handling the emotional triggers that make food feel like a solution
- Feeling safe enough to stop chasing control
That’s where coaching becomes a completely different conversation.
Weight loss medication is a tool, not a strategy
GLP-1s like Ozempic and Mounjaro are biological supports. They quieten the food noise. They help regulate insulin. They can absolutely create space.
But what happens in that space?
That’s where most people feel lost.
Because space isn’t the same as structure.
And hunger reduction isn’t the same as habit change.
When the external control softens, and it will, what you’re left with is your internal patterning. Your stories. Your stress responses. Your identity.
That’s the part no medication can fix.
Most people prescribed injections are offered nutritional or mindset support, but this is usually limited and optional and so often not taken up, because the need isn’t felt.
So they lose weight often independently, often fast, but risk losing muscle, energy, and without the emotional structure needed to keep it off.
Even more importantly, most people are never taught how to:
- Respond to hunger without panic
- Handle emotional eating, stress triggers, or cravings
- Rebuild self-trust after a lifetime of plans and restarts
- Live in a slimmer body without the fear of it slipping away
That’s where I come in.
Through my Energize Your Life weight loss coaching, I help clients:
- Stay consistent (even when weight loss slows down)
- Avoid under-eating or bingeing patterns
- Create sustainable routines that actually fit their life
- Break free from “all-or-nothing” thinking
- Reconnect with food, hunger, and their bodies in a safe, structured way
Because here’s the part no one really talks about:
GLP-1s like Ozempic and Wegovy are biological tools.
They quiet appetite, or food noise. They regulate blood sugar.
They can absolutely help with weight loss, especially at the start.
But they don’t do the emotional work for you.
They don’t give you tools to manage the fear when the hunger comes back.
They don’t shift your identity or help you feel calm in your choices.
And when they stop working, or you stop taking them, that emotional gap becomes visible, fast.
“The weight came off, but the fear came back.”
A subscriber recently wrote to me after losing 3 stone on Mounjaro and reading one of my recent articles about the real cost of weight loss injections. To paraphrase it she said:
“At my lowest weight I felt amazing. But now I’ve regained 9lbs and I’m scared I’m sliding backwards. The drug doesn’t curb my appetite anymore.
It never fixed my eating. It just silenced it.”
While the initial results were physically transformative, she described an unexpected downside: rapid weight loss left her with muscle loss and loose skin.
The deeper concern wasn’t just the regain, it was the fear that it marked the start of a full reversal. The medication no longer suppressed her appetite, and financially, continuing wasn’t an option.
Her reflection was clear: while Mounjaro helped her lose weight, it didn’t resolve the deeper behavioural patterns behind her eating. It felt more like a pause than a true solution.
This is more common than you think.
What they’re describing isn’t failure. It’s a gap in support.
They were never given the tools to manage food without the medication.
They never built the self-trust to make choices without fear.
And when the appetite returned, they weren’t prepared for the emotional noise that came with it.
It’s not about the number, it’s about the stability underneath it
Rapid weight loss without structure, identity and nervous system safety is weight loss that’s hard to maintain.
We’ve seen this play out in research too. In the well-known Biggest Loser study, most participants regained a significant amount of weight, despite ongoing effort, and their metabolism slowed dramatically.¹ Their bodies were fighting to return to a state of “normal.”
Similarly, Dr. Herman Pontzer’s research shows that when we lose weight quickly, the body adapts, reducing energy output and driving hunger to protect us from further loss.²
If you’ve lost weight on medication but feel unsure how to maintain it, you’re not doing anything wrong. You’re just in a phase most people aren’t prepared for.
That’s why coaching matters even more after the weight comes off.
So do you need a coach if you’re taking weight loss injections?
Not if you’re just looking for fast weight loss.
But if you want to feel calm in your body…
If you want to stop negotiating with food every day…
If you want to trust that your habits will hold even when life gets hard…
Then yes. You don’t need a coach to help you lose weight.
You need one to help you protect your investment.
That’s what I help with.
No diets. No pressure. No shame. Just grounded structure and belief-led support.
Your next step
Whether you’re using medication or not, long-term success is still predominantly about your mindset.
And that’s what I coach.
If you’ve hit the goal but feel like you’re slipping, or you’re still on the way and want to feel safer as you get there, I’d love to help.
