Weight Loss, Eating Behaviour & Sustainable Weight Management
Expert Commentary That Goes Beyond Diets and Calories
Weight management is often presented as a straightforward matter of eating less and moving more. In practice, the reasons people struggle to lose weight or maintain their results are far more complex.
My work focuses on the psychological and behavioural factors influencing eating habits, motivation, self-regulation and long-term weight management.
After spending approximately 25 years struggling with repeated weight loss and regain, I made significant changes to my own lifestyle and have maintained my weight loss since 2011.
That personal experience prompted a major career change, building on my professional background in healthcare and my subsequent qualifications in coaching, hypnotherapy, NLP, personal training, obesity management and behaviour change.
Since 2020, I’ve worked with individuals facing a wide range of weight management challenges, from repeated dieting and emotional eating to maintaining progress through changing health, family and work circumstances.
Weight Loss Topics I Can Discuss
- Why diets fail in the long term: The behavioural and psychological challenges of maintaining weight loss.
- Emotional eating and eating habits: Understanding patterns, triggers and the influence of stress, emotions and environment.
- The psychology of weight loss: How beliefs, identity, self-talk and past experiences influence behaviour.
- Weight loss injections and GLP-1 medications: The importance of behavioural support, realistic expectations and planning for long-term weight management alongside medical treatment.
- Midlife and menopause: The practical and behavioural challenges of managing weight through changing life stages.
- Intuitive eating and calorie awareness: Exploring the benefits, limitations and practical application of different approaches.
- Motivation, discipline and accountability: Why relying on motivation alone can make long-term change difficult.
- Weight regain and repeated dieting: Understanding why people return to familiar habits and how they can respond differently.
- The modern food environment: How availability, convenience, portion sizes and everyday pressures influence eating behaviour.
- Weight loss groups versus individual coaching: The benefits and limitations of different types of support.
- Long-term weight maintenance: What happens after the weight comes off, and why continuing support can matter.
- The emotional impact of weight struggles: Shame, frustration, confidence and the relationship people develop with food and themselves.
I can also contribute practical perspectives from years of working directly with individuals, including common challenges, misconceptions and approaches that clients find helpful.
Where appropriate and with explicit consent, anonymised case studies or client interviews may be available.

Motorcycle Mindset, Rider Confidence & Psychology
Exploring the Human Factors Behind Motorcycle Confidence
Motorcycle safety discussions rightly place considerable emphasis on training, protective equipment, road conditions and riding technique.
The psychological aspects of motorcycling deserve attention too.
Thoughts, emotions, confidence, risk perception, attention and decision-making can influence how riders approach learning, respond to challenges and use their practical riding skills.
I started learning to ride at 50, experiencing significant anxiety, self-doubt and setbacks along the way. After passing my full motorcycle licence in July 2024, I continued developing my skills and exploring the psychology behind riding confidence.
Today, I combine that personal experience with my professional coaching expertise to support learner riders, newly qualified motorcyclists, returning riders and experienced riders who encounter confidence difficulties.
I’m the author of the bestselling motorcycle mindset book Remember You’re a Rider, published in January 2026, and the creator of the Pocket Rider Mindset Coach.
I also work in partnership with the British Motorcyclists Federation (BMF), Honda Owners Club GB and Phoenix Motorcycle Training, contributing specialist mindset support alongside practical rider education.
Motorcycle Topics I Can Discuss
- Motorcycle test anxiety: Why capable learners can struggle under test conditions and how psychological preparation can help.
- Confidence versus competence: Why possessing riding skills doesn’t always translate into feeling confident using them.
- Returning to motorcycling: The psychological challenges of getting back on a motorcycle after a break.
- Confidence after incidents and setbacks: How riders interpret difficult experiences and rebuild trust in their abilities.
- Risk perception and decision-making: How fear, confidence, pressure and overconfidence may affect judgement.
- Motorcycle training and psychological support: Why mindset coaching and practical instruction can work together.
- The nervous system and riding anxiety: Understanding the body’s response to perceived threats.
- Imposter syndrome and self-doubt: Why even experienced riders may question their abilities.
- Women entering motorcycling later in life: Confidence, expectations, barriers and personal experiences.
- Men’s confidence and mental wellbeing: Creating opportunities for riders to discuss fear, uncertainty and pressure without judgement.
- Overconfidence and complacency: Why psychological awareness is relevant to riders who feel highly confident too.
- Rider identity and belonging: The impact of comparison, expectations and feeling like a ‘proper biker’.
- The psychological cost of learning to ride: How repeated tests, additional lessons, delays and financial pressures can affect confidence.
- Graded exposure and confidence development: Understanding how manageable, progressive experiences can support learning.
- AI and rider mindset support: The opportunities and limitations of digital coaching tools for reflection, preparation and support between training sessions.
My work is particularly relevant to discussions about rider development, human factors, motorcycle training experiences and the role of psychological support in safer, more considered riding.
I provide expertise in mindset and behaviour, rather than technical motorcycle riding instruction. My work is designed to complement professional rider training.
