The Pros and Cons of Weight Loss Jabs You Need to Know

In her check-in sheet before our third session she wrote:
“Things are bleak. I feel out of control, like a ball rolling downhill, gaining momentum but of the wrong sort.”
She had lost a significant amount of weight using Mounjaro. But the hunger and uncertainty had returned, and with it came the panic.
The untold fear after injections
When we sat down together, I started by reassuring her that what she was experiencing was normal. She then said:
“I don’t quite know what’s going on, but it sounds like you do.”
Yes I do… I see this all the time, no matter what the method of weight loss. The body will always try to fight back. But I have the mindset tools to help you manage it, so that it doesn’t win. More on that soon…
Later in the session she said:
“I very well know the difference between my stomach hunger and mouth hunger, but the mouth hunger seems to have been very, very present and really trying to get my attention. All the time. And I haven’t really felt like I’ve had the strength to deny it.”
She had been journaling. She had been tracking. She was still trying. But she felt fragile. She felt like everything she had gained was slipping through her fingers.
So, are weight loss jabs safe?
Medically speaking, yes. Weight loss injections like Mounjaro and Wegovy are generally considered safe and effective when prescribed and monitored appropriately.
But safety isn’t just about physical side effects. The real question Sophie was living out was:
- Will I lose control now the prescription has ended?
- Will all my progress disappear now that I’m off it?
- What happens when the structure is gone and it’s just me?
Her belief in herself that she could manage it was low, and shrinking further with each passing day.
The real pros and cons of weight loss jabs
Most articles will list pros and cons in theory. Here’s what they look like in a real life.
Pros
They work.
My client’s body responded in a way it hadn’t in years. Her appetite was quieter, food noise faded, and she finally felt she could breathe.
“It was like someone had switched off the chaos.”
They offer breathing room.
That pause is powerful, especially for high-functioning adults who live in chronic decision fatigue. My client got a break from the mental tug-of-war that every meal created.
They build belief.
For many, early success creates momentum. The kind that gives them hope they haven’t felt in years, if ever.
Cons
The loss doesn’t build the habits.
Once the medication ends, hunger signals return. Without rebuilding structure, the weight usually comes back.
“I must be doing something… wrong. But I don’t know what.”
The body pushes back.
As I told my client in the session:
“Your body is working hard to fight back from the weight loss. Especially when the loss happens quickly and there’s a lot of it. It’s not sabotage. It’s your system trying to protect you.”
Emotional patterns remain.
GLP-1s suppress appetite. They don’t resolve the part of you that still feels urgent or chaotic around food. My client knew that:
“Even the healthy choices feel fragile.”
What actually shifted in our session
I didn’t give my client another plan. I didn’t tell her to double down on restriction.
I said:
“This is the space where you’re going to learn how to manage your weight effectively. My advice to you is to be patient, and sit in this space, because this is where the real learning happens.”
Together, we slowed everything down.
- We identified her pressure points
- We built minimum structure around her meals
- We planned for the moments where motivation would vanish
- We practised neutrality, not shame
My client didn’t need to be fixed. She needed a framework to stabilise.
