Life After Mounjaro: A Client’s Journey
September 21, 2025
By Claire JonesMy client is 70.
She’s been dieting since she was 14.
Decades of her life spent in the relentless loop:
Lose the weight.
Gain it back.
Join the group.
Fall off the wagon.
Start again Monday.
Feel ashamed by Friday.
She tried everything – and nothing ever stuck.
Until Mounjaro.
For the first time in nearly sixty years, she lost the weight with ease. 3 stone gone. Just like that.
Not because she found the “right plan.”
But because the medication switched off the hunger.
“It was easy. For the first time, food wasn’t a fight.”
But then came the part no one prepares you for.
The Panic After the Progress
My client had to stop the injections.
And almost immediately, the hunger came back.
Within a few months, she’d regained 10 pounds.
But what hit harder than the weight… was the fear.
“It’s not just that I’m eating more – it’s that I don’t know how to manage this hunger.”
That’s the hidden heartbreak of post-injection life.
When you’re on the medication, it feels like you don’t need help.
You’re not hungry. You’re not obsessing. You feel in control.
But when you come off?
The hunger returns – and with it, the doubt and the fear.
Suddenly, the tools that didn’t seem necessary while the injections were doing the work start to matter deeply:
- Knowing how to eat enough – not just less – to stay healthy
- Maintaining muscle through prioritising protein and resistance training
- Understanding your patterns and improving your relationship with food
Because sustainable weight loss – the kind that means you stop yo-yo dieting – isn’t just about hunger.
It’s about the skills and mindset that carry you when the hunger comes back, which it invariably will. Research overwhelmingly shows the chances of weight regain are extremely high.
Coaching Isn’t a New Plan. It’s a New Perspective.
NICE guidance recommends a full year of weight management support after stopping GLP-1 injections, to address psychological factors and build sustainable habits – significantly increasing the chances of maintaining weight loss.
My client had the wisdom to recognise that this was the kind of support she truly needed.
She didn’t come to me for another set of food rules.
She came to learn what no one ever taught her:
-
How to feel safe around food
-
How to eat less without fear
-
How to stop chasing a sense of control that was always conditional on life going smoothly
-
How to make practical changes without getting lost in the noise of trends and fads
She’s given me permission to share her journey with you, in the hope that it helps others walking a similar path.
So follow along.
This is where the real work begins. My client knows it’s not going to be easy. But she knows it will be worth it. And she’s ready.
Session 1: Rewiring, Not Restriction
In our first session, we talked about a truth most people overlook:
“Eating less isn’t just about eating less.
It’s about learning to be happy with less – not because you think you should, but because it feels enough.”
That’s not a rule.
It’s a mindset rewire.
It doesn’t happen overnight – but that’s the shift that sets people free.
We didn’t start with a meal plan.
We started with this:
“Learning how to eat differently is just like learning anything else.
You don’t need more willpower.
You need a new attitude, practice, and permission to make mistakes.”
Just like learning to drive or learning anything else.
You don’t get it perfect on day one.
You build skill through education, repetition, reflection, and support.
This isn’t about shortcuts.
It’s about structure.
About awareness.
About kindness
And building something that actually fits your life.
“But what if I’m missing out?”
That’s one of my client ’s biggest fears.
Not just regaining the weight – but missing out on life.
Because for so many people who’ve dieted for decades, “eating less” has always meant missing something:
- The treat
- The celebration
- The ease
- The freedom
- The comfort
But here’s the attitude shift we’re working on:
When you change how and why you eat, you don’t have to fear missing out.
Because what you’re building isn’t just weight loss.
It’s a way of eating that includes you – and nourishes you – without punishment.
This isn’t about willpower.
It’s about safety.
It’s about choice.
It’s about retraining your nervous system so hunger no longer feels like an emergency.
My client is starting here:
Food + Mood Awareness and Data Gathering
Not just what she eats – but what she wants, what she feels, and what patterns are playing out and how they impact.
1:1 WhatsApp Support
Because the tough moments don’t wait for Thursday’s 1:1 session.
Accountability Club Access
A space to be seen, supported, and surrounded by others walking the same post-injection path.
Weekly 1:1 Coaching
To unpack the deeper beliefs, rebuild confidence, and create habits rooted in self-respect – not shame.
From External Control to Internal Calm
The real shift my client is making?
It’s not on the scale.
It’s in her nervous system.
It’s the shift from:
“I can only lose weight if something’s controlling my appetite for me”
to
“I can trust myself to manage food in a way that feels calm, consistent, and sustainable.”
Even after almost 60 years of dieting – that’s still possible.
There is nothing wrong with my client . She is behaving like a normal human being, and she just never learned a way that wasn’t built on fear and deprivation.
Now?
She’s choosing a new path – one mindset shift, one calm breath, one intentional choice at a time.
Her word for this journey?
Freedom.
Not just from weight.
From the spirals.
The guilt.
The rules.
The false restarts.
This isn’t a diet.
It’s a reset – for her brain, her body, and her life.
And this is only the beginning.
