When You Fall Off Track – This Is Where Weight Loss Coaching Comes In To Its Own
March 21, 2025
By Claire JonesMost people only see the before and after.
The weight loss. The glowing transformation. The big win moments.
But the truth? Real change isn’t neat. It’s not a straight line. And it definitely isn’t always Instagram-worthy.
A client of mine shared something with me that honestly stopped me in my tracks. We’ve been working together for a while, and she was reflecting on what it had felt like when she hit a rough patch.
Here’s what she said — and I’m sharing it with her permission:
“This is a bit wild, but bear with me, right?
You know about the tightrope. So imagine I was on the tightrope, and I got to the point where I was kind of doing tricks and all this fancy stuff. I was really in my flow.
And then I fall off. Into the bushes. Into the forest.
And I’m dusty, covered in mud, feeling pretty bumped up.
You’re the person who’s down there with me. You’re a little higher than me, but you come down — through the trees — and stay just above me.
You help me clear the way. You say, ‘If you move that, you’ll get through there. If you go that way, you’ll end up in the river.’
You help me climb back up — but on my own.
And I know you’re there, if I fall or get hurt again.”
That right there is what support actually looks like when life knocks you sideways.
The Messy Middle Is Where the Change Happens
We don’t talk about this enough. The bit between the start and the breakthrough.
It’s not polished. It’s not quick.
It’s full of doubt, resistance, mess, and real-life barriers.
And if you’re in that place – where you feel like you’ve fallen off the tightrope – it’s easy to believe you’re failing.
You’re not.
You’re in the part that matters most.
That’s the space I work in with my clients. Not just cheering from the sidelines when things are going well, and not trying to take over or do it for you when it’s not. But walking alongside you. Helping you clear the mental clutter, challenge the old stories, and find your way back to something that works in your real life.
I’m not here to fix anyone.
I’m here to help you take ownership – and get back on your own tightrope, in your own time and in the way that works for you.
