Making the Most of Weight Loss Planners
January 6, 2022
One of the best ways you can support yourself on your weight loss journey is to use one of the many weight loss planners or journals that are on the market.
Many people start their diets or new healthy lifestyles with good intentions but struggle to maintain their commitment due to their lack of planning. A weight loss planner can help you stay on track so that you actually reach your goals.
It’s not necessarily the details of the plans themselves that matter, but the effort that you take to think about the problem and what you need to do to manage it.
It doesn’t matter if the plans didn’t happen exactly as you intended. As Dwight D Eisenhower, the Commander on Chief of Allied Forces said during World War II “In preparing for battle I have always found that plans are useless but planning is indispensable.”
This is because there are many factors outside our control but we can control how we respond to them, by going through the process of planning and being clear in advance about our options.
Using a planner every day can make all the difference in helping you maintain healthy control over your behaviour.
Helping You to Plan
There are many ways that a weight loss planner can help you. It is not just about planning, although that is certainly one of the benefits. A planner can give you a place to write your weekly meal plan and associated shopping list, so that you are more likely to stick to a healthy lifestyle. Anything that you can plan in advance and if it suits you, batch cook, can be identified at the beginning of the week, so you can easily reach for or quickly prepare that meal a few days later.
It’s also great for scheduling and recording your exercise or other less formal activity
Holding You to Account
However, writing these meals down can also help to keep you accountable. You have made a plan; you have taken the time to put it in your planner. The only step left is to follow through with your intentions. Why not check off each item in your plan when you have completed it, so that you can feel a sense of accomplishment after each healthy meal?
Record Your Goals
A weight loss planner can also be a great place to write down your weight loss goals, and the reasons why they are important to you. Once your goals are in black and white, you are willing them to become fact.
Visualization is a powerful tool that will help you on your journey and help you to be really clear about your goals. You can try mine.
Then once you have your answers you can write them down in your planner.
Check out this Forbes article if you need any convincing of the value of spending time on this. what happens when you do as opposed to just thinking about them, and why this means you are more likely to achieve your goals.
Unscramble your Thoughts
As well as recording your actions, a planner/journal is a great place to record your thoughts…. As in doing so it helps us to make more sense of them, and also reduce the power any negative voices in our heads might have over us. Once we can see them written down, we can challenge them, and also decide what actions to take next.
Maintain Your Motivation
By recording your progress in all the things you are recording, you will soon be able to look back and see how far you have come, and learn and demonstrate to yourself what you are capable of. Having a record also gives you something to refer back to if you need some ideas or reminders about what to do.
What planner to choose?
Whether you are the kind of person who loves to track every aspect of your life, or someone who prefers a more generic approach, there is a weight loss journal to suit your personality. Some planners will track your meals, your workouts, your calorie intake, your water intake and your measurements. Others will focus on your mental health and some work on short-term goals that build up into long-term success.
If a diary style planner is not for you, you might prefer a wall chart or a smart phone app. Or perhaps you need something more bespoke, in which case, YourOneLife might be able to help.
