When It Comes to Weight loss, What Does Your Bank Statement Tell You About Your Current Priorities?
October 19, 2021
There are many ways to lose weight. Some people choose to eat less, while others prefer to move more. Many people manage to do both, but not so many are prepared to fully work on their mindset in order to maintain the behaviour needed to successfully manage their weight when the going gets tough.
Government guidance that is encouraged by many nutritionists, personal trainers, healthcare staff and weight loss coaches, says that in order to lose weight, we need to eat less and move more. It is a simple, solid theory that many people can understand and even put into practice. Unfortunately, without the right mindset in place, the lure of calorie-laden snacks and a comfy sofa can all too often take precedence.
Bank Statements Don’t Lie
If you were to take a look at your bank statement right now, it would probably give you a fair representation of your life over the past month. If you added up everything you had spent on food and drink, including takeaways, meals out, snacks and coffees, as well as those cheeky trips to the pub, you might be surprised at how much you had spent. If you went through that bank statement and crossed out everything that counted as a luxury, rather than an essential, how much money do you think you could have saved?
Many people think that the cost of one-to-one weight loss coaching is something that counts as a luxury product, rather than an essential. But, if you compare the cost of coaching to the accumulated cost of luxury items over the month, you might be surprised to find that it is a lot cheaper, or at the very least no more expensive. And if the majority of the luxury purchases are to do with food and drink, my weight loss coaching could even save you money, since you won’t feel compelled to buy those unhealthy, unnecessary foods anymore.
And, you will lose the weight that you have been desperately trying to get rid of. In the case of your health, this could end up being an essential purchase for you.
Spending Time and Money on You
Of course, this is not true for everyone. Some people are much more cautious with the money they spend, even feeling guilty about making purchases for themselves, rather than their family. If this sounds like you, it is important to understand that weight-loss coaching is about so much more than simply dropping a dress size. The aim is to create a happier, healthier version of you, with an incredible ability to safely manage your behaviour around food for life.
This goal version is someone who will like how they feel both physically and mentally, and like what they see when they look in the mirror. You will be more likely to feel more confident and have more energy, and depending on your own individual circumstances, you may even improve your health. All this can then help you to be a better parent, partner or colleague in the long run. In order to help others, you have to first help yourself. There is no shame in investing in your own health and wellbeing.
At our heart, that is the true purpose of our coaching sessions. Weight loss is a positive side-effect of this process.
