If you’re worried about putting on lots of weight over the festive fortnight, you’re not alone.

Whether you celebrate Christmas or not, it’s almost impossible to avoid the festive food and drink.

Christmas weight gain isn’t about lack of willpower. It’s about what happens when rich food, alcohol, disrupted routines and zero awareness collide.

I’ve written a new article sharing exactly how I’ve been managing Christmas for the last 14 years, after repeatedly gaining around a stone in December and waking up in January feeling physically awful and fed up with myself.

I talk honestly about how easy it is to eat thousands of extra calories a day without realising (yes, cream, nuts, Baileys and “just a few” chocolates really do add up), why avoiding the scales makes things worse, not better, and how to enjoy the festive fortnight without guilt.

This isn’t about restriction, dieting, or being miserable. It’s about awareness, realistic boundaries, and stepping in early so a small wobble doesn’t turn into a big problem.

How I manage Christmas without losing the plot (or my progress) 🎄

Every year I hear:
“I’ll just start again in January.”
“It’s impossible to manage Christmas.”
“I’ve already ruined it so I might as well enjoy myself.”

I used to gain around a stone over Christmas and wake up in January feeling awful.

These days
I eat the food.
I drink the drinks.
I enjoy it.

But I don’t let it turn into a three-week free-for-all.

Here’s what actually helps 👇

• Decide in advance what you’re prepared to gain and accept it
• Know your vulnerabilities (more food, more alcohol, less structure)
• Slow everything down. Pause before you eat
• Don’t let yourself get overly hungry
• Use smaller plates and eat slowly
• Keep nibbles out of sight and out of reach
• Track for awareness, not perfection
• Keep moving, but keep it simple
• You’re not a bin. You don’t have to finish it
• Christmas food isn’t magical. You can eat it any time of year

Food isn’t the main character at Christmas. It’s a supporting act.

Enjoy yourself. Drop the guilt.

Whatever you gain, you can and will lose after Christmas. One season does not undo your progress unless you decide it does.
