What Holiday Success Looks Like When You Work With a Weight Loss Coach
May 22, 2025
By Claire JonesHoliday season is approaching, so let’s talk about what’s coming up.
Holidays often involve sunshine, late nights, more meals out than usual… and that voice in your head whispering:
- “What if I undo all my progress?”
- “I always gain weight on holiday.”
- “Oh well, I’ll sort it out when I get back.”
Sound familiar? That was my story for many years. I could easily gain between half a stone and a stone on holiday, before I learned what I know now.
If you’ve ever felt like time away equals falling off track, you’re not alone. Holidays often reignite old patterns of guilt, scarcity, and the all-or-nothing mindset.
But it doesn’t have to be that way.
One of my clients recently returned from a two-week trip abroad. No calorie counting. No rules. Just a full, vibrant holiday — cocktails, big portions served, new foods, and lots of freedom.
And she maintained her weight.
Even more importantly? She came home feeling powerful.
- Proud, not panicked
- In control, not restricted
- Free, not fragile
Here’s what she did differently — and how you can bring the same mindset into your next trip:
1. She stopped making food the main event
She enjoyed food, absolutely. But she didn’t rely on it for pleasure.
She let connection, curiosity, and joy be the highlights. The most memorable moments? Shared laughs, not shared desserts.
That tiny shift? It freed her from needing every meal to be a reward.
2. She didn’t finish all her food
She realised something we all forget: just because it’s on your plate doesn’t mean you owe it anything.
If it didn’t taste great, she stopped.
If she started to feel full, she stopped.
That’s not control. That’s clarity. She was able to do it because she slowed the pace right down, and could notice what her body was telling her.
It said: “I don’t need to prove anything to this plate.”
3. She noticed emotional eating – and chose not to spiral
There was a day where she ate for comfort, not hunger. In the past, that would have triggered a shame cycle.
But this time, she named it. Owned it. And moved on.
That’s what emotional mastery looks like: not perfection, but perspective.
4. She focused on peace, not perfection
She didn’t track macros or skip the wine. She tuned into how she wanted to feel.
And that inner compass? More reliable than any rulebook.
5. She came home feeling light, inside and out
Not because of a number on the scale. Because of how connected she felt to herself.
No guilt. No “back on track Monday.” Just a deep exhale and a quiet: “I did it differently. And it worked.”
This is what happens when you rewire your relationship with food. This is what sustainable weight loss looks like.
Because it was never just about the weight. It was about:
- Confidence
- Calm
- Choice
And guess what? You can do this too.
You don’t need more discipline. You need a better foundation. The kind that travels with you. That supports you when life isn’t routine. That lets you come back from holiday feeling empowered, not like you’re starting from scratch.
That’s what I help my clients build.
So if you’re heading into holiday season with that quiet fear of gaining weight or losing momentum… maybe it’s time for a different approach.
Because holidays should feel like a break — not a breakdown.
Going on holiday soon? Let’s make sure you come back feeling calm, confident, and in control, having had a great time, and not like you have to start all over again.
