How I manage Christmas without losing the plot (or my progress) 🎄
Every year I hear:
“I’ll just start again in January.”
“It’s impossible to manage Christmas.”
“I’ve already ruined it so I might as well enjoy myself.”
I used to gain around a stone over Christmas and wake up in January feeling awful.
These days
I eat the food.
I drink the drinks.
I enjoy it.
But I don’t let it turn into a three-week free-for-all.
Here’s what actually helps 👇
• Decide in advance what you’re prepared to gain and accept it
• Know your vulnerabilities (more food, more alcohol, less structure)
• Slow everything down. Pause before you eat
• Don’t let yourself get overly hungry
• Use smaller plates and eat slowly
• Keep nibbles out of sight and out of reach
• Track for awareness, not perfection
• Keep moving, but keep it simple
• You’re not a bin. You don’t have to finish it
• Christmas food isn’t magical. You can eat it any time of year
Food isn’t the main character at Christmas. It’s a supporting act.
Enjoy yourself. Drop the guilt.
Whatever you gain, you can and will lose after Christmas. One season does not undo your progress unless you decide it does.

This is the only photo I have of me smoking. Taken in 2006, just before everything changed.
I remember looking at it and thinking:
“Why on earth am I doing this?”
That moment stopped me in my tracks.
Shortly after, I quit for good.
🗓️ 9th December 2006 - 19 years ago today - was the first day of my life smoke-free.
It wasn’t easy. I’d smoked for 17 years.
I used it to manage stress, emotions… even weight.
But something clicked.
I chose a mindset-first approach - the very one that now underpins all my work.
After quitting, I gained back all the weight I’d lost through smoking - and more.
But I didn’t stay there.
I applied the same mindset tools to change my relationship with food and my body.
By 2011, the transformation was complete.
Since then…
🔥 I’ve spent 4 years as a part-time firefighter
🏃‍♀️ Run marathons and races
🧠 Built a business helping others change their lives — without shame.
I’m not proud of how I treated my body back then, when it was doing its best to keep me alive.
But I am proud of what came next - and who I became because of it.
